PMW 300 audio control cover door

Just got my PMW 300 to replace my EX1 (2008 vintage) and love the view finder and the familiar adjustable grip, but I wish I could remove the cover door to the audio controls as I use my camera in the shoulder position and like to adjust audio on the fly. I shoot a lot of interviews for various community events so on the fly adjustment is a key.

Although the dials are not covered, the door prevents using your thumb and it is awkward to use and finger pushing on the dial to easily change them when using the camera as shoulder mount. Fine for tripod mounting

I see the PMW 100 and 200 have their door hinged on the left side but the PMW 300 is hinged at the bottom - anyone removed theirs ?
If so how ?
