Sony FS Series RAW Out To Recorder Looks Different Than Internal XAVC HD
Sony FS Series RAW Out To Recorder Looks Different Than Internal XAVC HD
I recorded a simple interview on my Sony FS 5 (with RAW option) to both an Atomos Shogun Flame (RAW 4K - ProRes HQ) and to internal card on HD XAVC. Shot custom Picture Profile REC 709 - NOT SLOG. HD XAVC looks very different than 4K ProRes HQ from Shogun Flame. 4K footage from Shogun Flame has way less contrast and saturation. Contacted Atomos and they have not responded. Any ideas?

Re: FS 5 RAW Out To Recorder Looks Different Than Internal XAVC HD
Heard back from Atomos on this and it turns out that if the following is true you can ONLY record from a Sony FS series camera feeding RAW to the Atomos Shogun Flame in some kind of LOG -- it will not record REC 709
1) You are using a Sony FS5, FS7, or FS700 camera.
2) The Atomos recorder is receiving a RAW signal from the camera.
3) The Atomos recorder is recording in ProRes or DNx codecs (not CDNG).
So if these conditions are met, you cannot record a REC 709 on the Shogun Flame -- it will be some kind of SLOG that you can choose.
Atomos said that they will be posting something about this in their forums in the near future.
