Errors when importing using Transfer Tool.
This one keeps cropping up from time to time. Some people report errors when importing long clips from both EX and XDCAM HD using the Sony transfer tool. The usual cause is that the user is trying to import to a hard drive that has been formatted using FAT32. Most off-the-shelf USB hard drives come pre formatted with FAT32 as this can be read by both Mac and PC users. The problem however is that there is a file size limit of 4Gb. If you try to import a long clip using file transfer when it gets to 4Gb it simply throws up an error without giving a clue as to what the problem is.
The solution is to either re-format the drive using Mac OS formatting or to break the clips up into smaller chunks by marking in and out points in the transfer tool prior to importing them.
