Artifacts when rendering 1920x1080 footage to DVD

Alister, I've just run into this problem with some EX footage that I rendered to SD for a DVD. I'm seeing a lot of staircasing and other artifacts that you wrote about in November. You suggested using a blur filter in post. I'm wondering whether you or any other readers can suggest the appropriate filter for Vegas, and some starting parameters?

Also, this is the first project in a long time that I shot in 30p. I had been using 24p for most things, but I ran into 60Hz flicker artifacts with a number of recent concerts. Unfortunately, it seems DVDs can be rendered as 24p but only 60i, not 30p. At least, that's what I read, and that's what DVD Architect does. Any other way to get 30p DVDs? Thank god there's blu-ray! (Although DVD Architect also interlaced my 30p blu-ray for some reason...)

You can't have a 30P DVD or BluRay as that standard does not exist! If you shoot 30P and then render to 60i what you end up with is in effect PsF which is progressive within an interlace frame.

As for the artifacts you need to soften the HD a little before rendering to SD so perhaps a very mild blur filter or something like that.
